Marillion - Clutching At Straws (1987)
Not so long ago, I wouldn’t have touched this sort of stuff with a barge pole. It’s only recently that I’ve delved into English rock pomposity in the interests of expanding my musical horizons.
commentsI bought a swag of Marillion vinyl at TWH when they were practically giving it away. To be honest, my expectations were pretty low.
On first listen, this record actually kicks some serious arse. While there’s a certain Floydian pomposity to proceedings it’s more song orientated than epic filler. I think it will reward greatly with subsequent plays. For now it’s more than a pleasant surprise.

commentsI quite like prog (which stands for progressive rock). It’s a bit pretentious, like jazz, meandering, like classical. and definitely not mainstream, (un)like pop.
