Santana - Caravanserai [Hi-Res Audio] (1972)

I remember hearing this for the first time, as a young nursing student, at a friend’s place in Levin.

He was a practitioner of Bahai Faith. (In this case the smell of incense wafting around the flat wasn’t there to disguise the smell of other substances).

Aside from being a brilliant sounding and adventurous record, it also oozed spirituality.

I’ve always held this record in highest of esteem. It continues.

OK it’s not a “proper” live album - it’s got studio recordings interspersed with the live stuff - but as a 17 year old totally immersed in guitar hero worship, this thing still stings the synapses.

I really forgot I even had this in my record collection when I went hunting for something substantial today. And this remastered gem on Antarctic Ice Shelf-thick vinyl IS truly substantial.
